Mike's Blog Marketing Tips

Kinda starting to get the hang of this Wordpress thing, it looks like.  A bit more complicated than Blogger, but already I can see a lot of more potential.  As you can see, I decided to shed all the banner ads.  I may put up a single 125 x 125, but no final decision on that pending at this point.  They weren’t converting anyway, although the amount of traffic I get isn’t a whole lot.  I still don’t have a reason why Blogger shut me down, but I was planning to make the switch anyway.   It’s just too bad I was unable to actually build this one prior to making the switch.  Dummy me didn’t back anything up so I could move all my stuff over.  You could basically say I’m starting all over from scratch.  And that’s a bummer.

Tomorrow, for those of whom have found me again, my final project is due in my web development class.  While kind of gimmicky, I like it.  I wanted to show as much use of technology as I could, while still making good use of space.  There are a lot of blogs and sites out there that make use of every single piece of online real estate they have, be it an ad, a widget or some sort of content.   The previous incarnation of this blog was an example of that.  On my school project (and this blog, it seems), I chose not to do that on the theory that “less is more”.  I’m not questioning the technique, merely saying that doing that isn’t my style and doesn’t work for me.  I’ve still got a bit of work to do on my school project, but you can check it out here: http://studentftp.gcccd.net/csisweb/michael.roberson.  I’m especially proud of the about me page.  I showed that page to my family prior to going live with it and they all about cracked up.

Oh.  Before I go,  does anyone out there use Host Gator as a web host and if so, can you tell me why when I upload a template found from the web (outside of Host Gator), I’m not seeing the style sheet, just a blank page with text and links?   Last time I talked to Host Gator, I was told that was a browser issue and not on their end.  But I’ve gotten reports of the same from different people and different browsers.  Just thought I’d ask.
